Free instore-tv

Do you dream of having a professional info screen in your shop, clubhouse, or waiting room, but get put off by expensive monthly subscriptions and complicated tech? I’ve built a free solution for you. With just a few clicks, you can turn an ordinary TV into a digital sign that you control directly from Google Slides.

An info screen—or in-store TV—is a fantastic way to grab people’s attention. Whether you want to show today’s specials in the café, the match schedule in the sports hall, or practical information in a waiting room, it works. The problem is just that most solutions on the market require recurring subscriptions that quickly add up.

I want to change that. That is why I coded this little generator for you.

How It Works: Your Very Own Plug & Play Info Screen

This solution is built to be as simple as humanly possible. You just design your screen graphics in the free program Google Slides. Then, you use the form below to generate a small, ready-to-use package of files.

You place these files on an SD card, insert it into a cheap mini-computer (like a Raspberry Pi) plugged into the back of your TV, and turn on the power. The screen automatically connects to your WiFi and displays your Google Slides presentation in full screen.

Whenever you want to change a text or a picture on the screen, you just open Google Slides on your phone or computer and make the edit. The screen updates itself!

Get Started in 4 Simple Steps:

  1. Create your presentation: Design your slides in Google Slides. Remember to change the sharing settings on the presentation to “Anyone with the link”.
  2. Fill out the form: Paste the link to your presentation, along with your WiFi network name and password, into the fields below.
  3. Download the files: Click the button to generate and download your zip file, and extract it on your computer.
  4. Plug it into the screen: Drag all the extracted files onto an empty SD card, and insert it into your mini-computer (e.g., a Raspberry Pi). Turn it on, and you are good to go!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How much does it cost to use this system?

The software itself, and the use of the generator on this page, is 100% free. You pay zero subscription fees. Your only expenses are the physical hardware (a screen and a mini-computer).

What equipment do I need?

You need a completely standard monitor or TV with an HDMI input. Besides that, you need a mini-computer—I highly recommend a Raspberry Pi—along with an empty Micro-SD card and a power supply. You can usually buy this setup for a small one-time fee of around $100-$150.

Do I have to restart the screen when I make new slides?

No, not at all. In the form above, you can choose how often (in minutes) the screen should check for updates. If you change a price in your Google Slides, it will automatically show up on your info screen within the time interval you selected.

Will it still work if the internet drops out for a moment?

Your screen needs WiFi to fetch the latest changes. However, if the network drops briefly, the screen will usually just keep displaying the most recently loaded version of your slides until the connection is restored.
